15 Jul 2010 chatroulette adventures The past few weeks have been about taking decisions. I'm giving shape to the script of the short film. Taking some bits and pieces from the novel and from the feature film script but also allowing this project to have its own identity. The short film will be only about the online interaction between these two characters, I know that now. It all starts with a random meeting on a website like Chatroulette. Now if you don't know yet what chatroulette is I suggest you try it out, if you happen to find yourself bored at home or drunk with a friend and checking out silly things online you must try at least once the Chatroulette.com experience... It can be quite dull but it can also be an interesting ride and that's the thing about something so random as this concept.

The first time I tried it myself I wasn't too impressed. I thought, fine, another one of those chats. But we tried it again with a friend of mine, we were at home one night drinking wine and playing guitar and we put some panda bear hats on - i have those in my house, yeah : ) - And we were sitting there with the panda bear heads, the guitar and playing with an octopus and a Pokemon like puppets in front of the webcam - yeah, i have those too in my house, couldn't live without my Picachu Pokemon - .. So after a few dodgy looking guys 'nexted' us and after we 'nexted' some close ups of male genitalia (which you will find inevitably rather often) we begun to find some fun people who had fun with our performance.. At some point we bumped into this kid from NYC who must have been 19 and he totally fell in love with my friend Florence and how she sang - i was doing backing vocals and animating the octopus at that point.. So Flor and the NYC teenage boy had a 5 minutes infatuation, that was what it lasted, the connection got cut off leaving Flor with a broken heart for the following 10 minutes - the broken heart lasted twice as much time as the love affair ..
So, that was chatroulette ..

In a few days I will post some very important decisions we're taking at the moment concerning this project... I just need to wait until everything is confirmed but for now I just can say that among other things I made up my mind about who I want as an actress to play Lulu and I couldn't happier about the decision.

Good choice - i believe - confining the short story to the online interaction.
Following your March-31 post of "their first chat" and you first mentioning 'chatroulette' -- and next after reading more about chatroulette in wikipedia -- I quickly understood the exciting many options in a movie/ doc around the chatroulette theme, and wondered whether your story would start with 'their first chat' or whether L&R first (and perhaps also next) chat(s) would be part of such a roulette....

Hi michel, good guess, I wrote the opening scene already and yes, chatroulette seems to me the natural online environment for these characters two to hook up the first time.. so the scene will be a bit different than the chat i originally wrote but the spirit of it remains similar...
