'Dearest Pipilotti, I am an American installation artist. I was born in the USA in l962. Currently I am a mother of two, owner of a Montessori School, a musician that gigs and performs approximately three times a month and finishing my last 9 credits for my Bachelors of Fine Art in sculpture - I graduate in April.'

This is how co-producer and fellow artist Bridget Kelly started her message to Pipilotti. Much has already been said and written about Cinema Reloaded as a vehicle for bringing audiences and filmmakers together and its potential for facilitating their mutual interaction. Bridget Kelly seized the opportunity to get in touch with Pipilotti Rist by posting a comment on her latest blog entry. ‘Although Rist and I are strangers, I feel connected through her work and this is a great opportunity to be a part of her next piece. I think it would be amazing to interface with her directly.’

Geographical boundaries and long distances are no longer obstacles preventing people from all over the world from getting in contact with each other. Living in the United States and studying sculpture at the University of Florida, Bridget Kelly got acquainted with Pipilotti’s art through the internet and instantly felt that they were very similar in their work and lives. ‘We were both born in 1962. I feel that the social influences that shaped our personalities being a child in the 60’s and 70’s has a direct influence on our art. I draw inspiration from Pipilotti’s work. She is a strong, fantastic artist that takes risks and finds a new way for audiences to experience her work’. Bridget considers her involvement in Cinema Reloaded a collaboration that she is very excited to be part of. ‘Getting points of view and then using your own discernment can be a powerful tool while making and creating art. It is genius. To get an idea of audience interpretation, accumulate outside ideas and generally gather information quickly via the internet is a wonderful idea.’

As an artist, Bridget Kelly has a special and even personal bond with Pipilotti’s work. ‘I also create multimedia installations. She seems interested in the audience and their reaction and changes that happen within as they view her work. This is one of my primary interests as well.’ In her blog, Pipilotti points out that she likes to mingle with the audience and talk to them about her art, as if she were just another visitor. In that respect, Kelly and Rist have a lot in common. Pipilotti uses Cinema Reloaded as a digital platform to do just that, to have direct interaction with her audience. They also have more traits in common. ‘When I printed out a photo of Rist distorting her face by pushing it up to a glass plate my daughter (age 17) asked, "Is that you?"

What does Bridget expect from Pipilotti? ‘I would love to post regular comments if Pipilotti would reveal more about her projects.’ As an experiment, Cinema Reloaded is not about finding a definitive model for filmmaking in the digital age. In the end, it’s all about finding new ways for artist and audience to communicate. ‘I think the comment that touched me the most when I was deciding to donate a coin what when Rist commented "Thank you for trusting me." That was beautiful! I am a very trusting person and this one comment alone gave me hope.’
